Blue Eyed Boy of Indian Cricket team : Prithvi Shaw

BIRTH OF A SPECIAL TALENT :

Prithvi Shaw was born in Virar Maharashtra. In 2010 he was offered a contract by AAP Entertainment that allowed him to move to Mumbai where he pursued his cricket from Middle Income Group (MIG) ground in Bandra.

Just a few days after Sachin Tendulkar had announced his retirement from all forms of cricket a 14-year-old schoolboy smashed 546 off 330 balls for Rizvi Springfield in Harris Shield elite division match breaking into the record books and the collective conscious of a cricket-obsessed nation who have pinned their hopes on the diminutive boy since then to fill the big boots of Tendulkar.

He topped it off with centuries on both Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy debut but missed the golden treble after falling for 51 on his Irani Trophy debut. He has had an enviable First class record scoring 1418 runs in 14 matches including 7 centuries. His classy style and consistent run scoring has resulted in a call-up to the Indian Test side in the ongoing series against England.

IPL:

A successful campaign in the U 19 World Cup helped Prithvi Shaw become a millionaire when he was bought by Delhi Daredevils for a massive 1.2 crore. He became the youngest player to open in the IPL at the age of 18 years and 165 days. He had an impressive IPL scoring 245 runs in the 9 matches he got to play including two 50's. His knocks instilled a sense of belief that he does belong to the highest level.

BATTING STYLE :

Prithvi Shaw is a gifted stroke player and his batting is pleasing to the eyes. He has a good technique to combat short pitch bowling and is rarely troubled by it. But it is his drives through the off which brings him a lot of runs but is fraught with risks. While driving through the off his feet stay rooted to the crease waiting for the ball to come to him which can be effective in the subcontinent where the ball gets no assistance from the pitch but is risky proposition once the ball starts swinging away from the body. Despite the minor flaw in his technique he has managed to score runs consistently under all conditions and has earned a deserved call-up to the national team. Prithvi Shaw has blasted his way through the group cricket and domestic arena displaying prodigious talent and a great appetite for runs. But to sustain that form and class in the biggest stage against the quality players would decide if he is good enough to fill some big shoes and go on to become the player he is destined to be.
